Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted.  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Hot Rod was an emergency intake over the Thanksgiving Holiday.  DRoH was alerted by a local shelter that this little (6 pounds) fellow had been found as a stray.  He was in pretty bad shape.  Horribly underweight, with patches of fur missing and something wrong with his left eye - animal control needed Dachshund Rescue of Houston's help!  This little guy had NO chance of leaving the shelter if we didn't step up.  Volunteers scrambled to make arrangements to save this little guy.  He was admitted at one of vet clinics and is starting treatment for all that ails him.  They vet  was cleared to go home to foster (with eye drops, medications & medicated bathing instructions), so off he went. This little guy made friends all along his way - the animal control officer,  the volunteer who picked him up from the shelter, the vet staff at the clinic and now his new foster family.

Update:

Hot Rod (AKA: Roddy) is a gentle loving boy.  Despite the bad situation he came from his spirit has definitely not been broken plus he is enjoying his time with his foster dad and sister.  His patches in his fur are fully healing and he is looking and feeling great again and becoming fully active. Roddy has become very attached to his foster sister and follows her everywhere and the two will cuddle and chase each other all day.  He loves to cuddle in your lap as much as possible. On a nice sunny day, he will roll around the grass and soak up the sun.  He does practice being a guard dog thanks to his sister and he will bark but it seems like almost a whisper. He is crate trained and does fine in it during the day but Roddy has shown he can also be trusted out of the crate, too.

Overall, he is the sweetest little fellow!
