Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted.  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Hi, my name is Scooter and although I am an extremely shy guy, I do love to be snuggled with and petted. My foster family constantly tells me I’m a good boy and they love me but I’m still so worried that I am going to disappoint them so I usually keep my head down low but I will wag my tail happily when they are petting me. Every time one of them reaches over to pet me or pick me up I get a little nervous and tinkle a tiny bit but once I realize they are not upset with me and not going to hit me, I’ll roll over for belly rubs. Once they stop petting me, I nudge their hands and arms until they start petting me again because I can never get enough petting. It makes me feel so at ease, loved and cared for. Except for my little “accidents” when I get scared, I’m very good at letting my family know I need to go outside to potty. You see, it’s pretty simple with me because if I am not sitting on the couch or in one of the beds sleeping, and I’m excitedly jumping around by you, then that’s my way of asking you to pretty please let me outside so I can take care of my business where I’m supposed to. I do not like being left in my crate while my foster family is gone from the house but they always tell me they have to put me in there for my safety and they promise me they will return and when they do, I get so excited and wag my tail a million miles a minute because I am so happy they came back. I just get so nervous they won’t come back so I will cry very loudly for them for a while after they leave. I also have a really bad habit of tearing up any blankets, bedding or even toys that are in my crate with me so I may very likely do that to things in the house if I’m left alone in the house. The fun part about my crate though, is I get a yummy Himalayan bone or this other thing they call a “busy bone” which helps with my crate anxiety. 

I have 3 doggie foster siblings, a cat foster sibling and even 2 rabbit foster siblings and we all get along great! Sometimes my foster family tells me they think I may not be able to see, smell and hear cats because any time I am around my foster cat sibling I don’t even acknowledge her. My silly foster cat sibling will start hissing at me and start smacking me with her paw just because I want to sit next to my humans and she just so happens to be right next to them so I just sit there and do not pay her any attention. After all, I am sitting there to be next to my HUMANS, not her. I’m a good eater, too good of an eater, and will hog the food if I’m allowed so I always get my own big room to eat in by my big boy self! Before I came to my current foster family’s house, I was temporarily with another foster family and they had multiple cats that I didn’t pay any attention to either.

Really all I want is a family to love me for me, show me it’s OK to trust again, be patient with me while I learn the rules of my new house and learn to trust them, let me snuggle on the couch with them, play with me, let me sleep in bed with them each night and make me a part of their family for the rest of our lives.
