Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted.  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Dutchess is an all-around great dog. She is somewhat timid at first meeting, but loves people and once she warms up, is a loyal companion. Her favorite thing is to sit on the couch with her people and let you rub her head and belly. She also likes soft, stuffed toys and will fetch them, but she prefers to play keep-away when bringing them back. She gets super excited holding the toy away and pawing at her foster mom's hand ---her tails starts wagging so fast! But she is a gentle player and gladly gives up the toy so she can happily fetch again. This sweet girl is getting used to sleeping in her crate. She protests some when she first goes in, but as she learns her foster people are coming back, she is settling down. She is housetrained and hasn't had any accidents at her foster home. Dutchess doesn't have any food aggression issues and will happily eat alongside her dog foster brother. She is very intelligent and has quickly learned the routine at her foster home. To avoid any injury, she is learning to wait for someone to pick her up and put her on the sofa, rather than jumping up herself. She will probably need this lesson reinforced. She is a people pleaser and wants to do everything just right. She will do well in a home that makes sure she feels secure with plenty of cuddle time each day. She isn't super active, but enjoys an occasional walk and a few minutes of fetch. She gets along fine with the other dachshund in the house, but doesn't necessarily need a companion dog. She would be great in a family environment with older kids who understand she prefers snuggling over play or with a single person, looking for a loyal companion.
