Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted.  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Dear Future Forever Family,

My name is Kokomo Sands, but my family calls me Mo.

It has been a long road for me.  I was taken from a shelter a year and half ago and placed in foster care.  It wasn't until recently my family discovered I am partially blind - so not only am I 10 years old but seeing is a bit tricky.  The great news is my foster mom has worked tirelessly at training me.  I just received my AKC Canine Good Citizen (True service dogs must complete this course in order to be certified).  I can get nervous at times, but because of my training I am getting less scared every day.

I love other dogs and though it takes me a while, I also love my humans too.  I greet my family whenever they get home.  I love baths and being blow dried and brushed.  I am very food motivated and can learn a new skill in four days!  I really want to please you.

My mom said that I also had to mention for me to have a real chance of success at your home you need some things:
  • a set of stairs for the couch,
  • a small mat (1.5 ft x 2 ft),
  • a small dog crate to sleep in (and that is my safe space)
  • a small dog bed.
  • a stroller would be helpful, but it is ok if you don't have one.
  • I also take medicine every day for anxiety - being partially blind can be scary.  My medicine keeps me calm and able to learn all the new tricks you will teach me.  I am also hoping you like to walk because I love walking!

I hope I haven't scared you off, but my foster mom is very protective and wants to find the just the right family.  Please let the rescue know if you are interested in me and if you are willing to be patient as I learn your home.

Love,
Mo
