Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted.  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Robert is a sweet, loving dachshund who loves to cuddle and sunbathe outside. He has limited vision, but you'd never know it. He zooms around the yard and the house with ease, learns doggy doors in a matter of minutes, and is great with steps and doors. Everyone who meets him and sees him is shocked to learn he can't see well and swears he must have been misdiagnosed.​ Robert is a huge cuddler. He loves to be up on your lap, nestling his head in your neck, or tucked under your arm. He would love to sleep next to you in bed if you're willing, but he will also sleep a kennel or open bed next to your bed. He is happy for you to stay seated most of the day so he can lay with you, but if you're up and about a lot he will go sit in his bed or on a blanket on the floor in the same room. He can make a bed out of anything near you. I've seen him lay on top of gym bags, tool bags, grocery bags, etc. He'll make it work!​ ​ He's been with his foster family about 2 weeks, and he is starting to get more independent as he gets more comfortable and feels more secure and loved. He loves to be outside and will wander around or sit in the sun, especially if you leave door open for him.​ He is learning how to be on a harness and leash. He does really well on walks. He likes to stroll and will let you take the lead. He loves toys and shoes, especially soft rubber ones like flip flops. He also likes to pick shoes up and drag them places but he doesnt always chew on them.​ Robert is very food motivated. He wolfs down his dinner so his foster mom uses a slow bowl. He loves dog treats but hasn't shown much interest in human food unless it's the really good stuff like meat. He has no shame about climbing to see what you're eating though, even if he doesn't want it! Robert is working through two areas of improvement. He is mostly potty trained but sometimes wants to go back inside before he's finished all of his business and definitely wants you to be there with him. And he's still learning how to signal he needs to go so you can take him outside. But he's made great improvement in 2 weeks, so he's getting close to perfect. He also has a tendency to pee a little when he gets scared, which mostly happens when a human wants to pick him up. If you sit down first, he will start to jump up to your lap and then you can pick him up pee free. This is an area that should go away with time as he feels more trusting and secure.​ Robert's other area of improvement is that he hates to be alone. He gets very anxious and frantic. A secure kennel helps. But what helps most is another dog. He loves being with other dogs, and kenneling him with another dog has helped calm most of his anxiety. His foster mom expects this separation anxiety to improve as he feels more secure with his family.​ Robert is a terrific, beautiful dog. He has big velvety ears, fat paws, a long skinny body low to the ground and beautiful piebald coloring. He's a classic dachshund looking for a permanent home where he can cuddle and play. Please don't let his vision deter you from meeting him and giving him a chance!​
