Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted.  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Mario is a very affectionate people loving pooch. After being abandoned at a park inside a kennel with some of his litter mates, he has exhibited some major separation anxiety but is getting over it daily. He bonded instantly with my husband and was very anxious whenever he wan't around, but each day he has gotten more relaxed and comfortable being around different people. He would prefer being with you at all times, following you from room to room, and never letting you out of his sight. We have been practicing with him staying securely inside his kennel when we leave the house. He's also been learning to stay in separate areas of the house away from his humans but alongside his dog buddies. He's learning how to walk well on a leash and enjoys being outside. Mario has one good eye and one bad eye, but this doesn't prohibit his mobility in any way. We're still practicing with potty training by making frequent trips to the backyard and rewarding him with lots of praise when he does his business. Mario would be a great fit for anyone who is retired and can spend lots of time with him. I also think he'd be most comfortable with a companion animal. His energy level is pretty low, so if you just want to snuggle with him day in and out, he'd be fine with that. It's sad that such a sweet dog was taken for granted by his first owner, but we know that he'll have a very happy life with a wonderful dachshund loving family.
