Thank you for looking for your forever friend, hopefully it will be me. DRoH has been helping me and since they did not know my given name, they named me Amy Earnhardt, but you can call me whatever your heart desires.
I am a grown lady and most of the time I have a serious look about me, but please do not mistake that for not being happy. Oh, I am very happy to be a part of this loving group. I still have a puppy heart, that is, I love to skip about and play for as long as you want. I love to play with the other Dachshunds in my foster parents house and get along well with them. Sometimes I forget and stick my nose in their bowl. When I am reminded where I am in the pack, I immediately accept the counsel and go about my merry way. I do not know what toys are yet, but you can teach me. I heard of these things called belly rubs, but still have not grown fond of them. I love to chase squirrels and hunt for birds and hope you have a back yard for me to do so. I LOVE the outside. I could stay out there all day if you would let me.
Unfortunately, I have to share some bad things with you about my past and I hope you are understanding. I had a bad accident some time back and it broke a few bones in my hind quarter and rear legs. I did not get to the hospital in time and they healed a little awkward. My spine has an injury that also healed incorrectly, but I can still run, jump and play with my cousins just fine. The problem I have is when I first wake up from a nap, there is a spasm that often happens and I growl at my back until it goes away. I am not being mean, it just hurts. Maybe you can help me during these times with love, patience and kindness. I promise you that you will be rewarded for your gifts to me.
I am a couple of years old now and about 21 in dog years, so you don't have to worry about me chewing anything or having many accidents. I will let you know when we need to go outside by going to the back door patiently waiting for you to open it. I really do not like the wet grass that I might use the back porch instead of the grass. I am sure you will guide me and in time I will gladly follow. I am very attentive to loud noises and if I think a stranger has pulled up in the driveway and slammed the car door, you can count on me being attentive to this and maybe alerting this to you with a bark or two. Finally, please know that I am classified as one of the "hound" class. If you will truly love me as I will love you, my food will need to be in proportion to my needs and not my wants. To keep the added weight pressure off of my back so I will not hurt too bad, treats will have to be given sparingly.
I have a truly unique smooth coat as it is fine-haired and not quite black, but rather a deep, deep chocolate. You might think it is black until you put me side by side with one of my black and tan cousins. That is where I shine! Not bragging.... well, OK. I am bragging. I love to nap with the tip of my tongue hanging out of my mouth. I think somebody made my tongue way too long for my snout (hehehehe). I have years of love, playing, cuddling and companionship left in me if someone could give me the chance. Might it be you? I hope so.
